Hot Cross Buns



  1. Mix the flour, sugar, spice, yeast and salt into a bowl
  2. Gently pour JUST MILK into the mixture then add the butter and egg to form a soft dough

    JUST MILK tip: Typical Easter treat. We know that you will be tempted a lot during Easter week end so cut down calories and use skimmed JUST MILK instead of semi.
  3. Mix in the dried fruits of your choice along with the zest of the orange
  4. Turn onto a floured surface and knead for 10 minutes
  5. Place in a clean bowl and cover with a clean tea towel (or cling film) and leave to rise. The dough will double in size: this can take up to an hour
  6. Once the dough has risen, ‘knock’ the air out of it and then roll into a sausage or baguette shape
  7. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and form into the bun shapes and place on a lightly floured baking tray.  Cover with a clean tea towel and allow the buns to rise for a second time for up to 30 minutes
  8. Brush with the beaten egg and finish your buns with a cross made from a paste of flour and water
  9. Now simply bake in the pre-heated oven for 15-20 minutes until a lovely, golden brown
